Cran-Brennivin
Since I've gotten into making drinks and another of my passions is traveling, I've begun to bring back unique alcohols from places I travel and try them out.
Brennivin is an "Icelandic Schnapps" that is distilled from barley and caraway seeds. It has a very unique flavor. It actually tastes a bit like rye bread in liquid form. Which may not sound like a good beverage, but I'm really loving this flavor. It's just so different.
The cranberry, lemon, and simple syrup tone down the bread flavor and add a bit of sweetness. If you have the opportunity to get some Brennivin and are interested in something a bit different, this is a great one.
Makes 1 cocktail.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounce Brennivin (mine also says Viti and is clear, I think there are different flavors of Brennivin)
- 1 ounce cranberry
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice
- 3/4 ounce simple syrup
- Ice
Instructions:
- Place ice in cocktail shaker and add all ingredients. Shake well.
- Strain into a smaller glass like a coupe.
**Ran out of simple syrup one time I made this, so I used honey. Worked pretty well.
