Tumeric Latte
Tumeric is supposed to be great for inflammation, so when I stumbled upon this recipe I knew I had to make it. (In recovery from Lyme disease, still have lots of inflammation) I warn you, this is no small undertaking. I recommend wearing gloves as my fingers turned yellow, I got stains on my counter that did come out with some work, and I stepped away from the stove for just a min I swear, and the damn thing boiled over making a huge mess. Perhaps I'll try again as it was an interesting flavor. Not sure if it helped my inflammation or not (I'm doing multiple things for inflammation so hard to pinpoint). I would also recommend making a double, tripple, or even quadruple batch if making it, because it's so much work. Can make and leave in fridge for a few days. I also had some difficulty pouring from the pot into a glass. May want to use a funnel. I did also worry about it staining my teeth if it stained my counter so easily. I did notice some yellow that did not go away with tooth brushing, but was not there after my brushing the next morning. But probably don't want to make a habit of this drink - just when you're really experiencing inflammation.
Makes "2" drinks, but after spilling and also using probably a larger mug, was really just 1 drink.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of your dairy or dairy substitute (I used 2% milk, the orginal suggested almond milk or coconut milk)
- 2 TBSP fresh grated tumeric (a google search says you can get this in a paste form, I may do that if I make this again, will make much less mess! Saw Amazon and Target both have it)
- 4 tsp honey or maple syrup (I used honey)
- 2 tsp grated ginger (again, I may buy the paste next time, while less messy, it is harder to grate than the tumeric)
- 2 pinches of ground pepper
- 2 pinches of cinnamon
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender. Process on high until smooth, or about 1 min.
- Pour into a pot and heat on medium-high heat until steaming hot but not boiling. DO NOT LEAVE UNSUPERVISED or you will hate yourself. lol. It happens quickly.
- Carefully pour into a glass, use a funnel if needed.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon.
